Nurkovic’s TS Galaxy exit sparks SuperSport United interest

TS Galaxy and striker Samir Nurkovic have parted ways just days before the transfer window slams shut. SuperSport United have emerged as a potential destination for the Serbian forward.

The split comes despite Galaxy triggering a one-year extension on Nurkovic’s contract at the end of last season. The 32-year-old had joined The Rockets in September 2023 after a spell with Royal AM.

During his time with Galaxy, Nurkovic scored 10 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions, but his limited starting opportunities under coach Sead Ramovic led to the mutual decision to terminate the contract.

Before his time at Galaxy and Royal AM, Nurkovic made a name for himself at Kaizer Chiefs, where he netted 21 goals and provided 10 assists in 78 appearances.

Nurkovic had previously been linked with AmaZulu FC, but a move failed to materialise due to disagreements over the transfer fee. AmaZulu FC have since signed Etiosa Ighodaro and Senzo Ndlovu to bolster their attack.

WHY SUPERSPORT UNITED ARE EAGER ON SAMIR NURKOVIC

The Tshwane side’s interest in Nurkovic is likely fueled by a long-term injury to their main striker, Bradley Grobler. The veteran forward is expected to be sidelined for four to five months following surgery.

While SuperSport have Terrence Dzvukamanja as an option, the addition of Nurkovic could provide much-needed firepower in Grobler’s absence.

Matsatsantsa, who kick off their Betway Premiership campaign on Tuesday against Mamelodi Sundowns, will need to act quickly if they wish to secure Nurkovic’s services. For Nurkovic, a move to SuperSport could offer the consistent starting role he desires and the chance to re-establish himself as a potent force in South African football.

Hunt’s side signed central midfielder Keanin Ayer on a free transfer from Denmark.
Nyiko Mobbie joined them from Sekhukhune United, TS Galaxy’s Pogiso Sanoka was also snapped up alongside midfielder Brooklyn Poggenpoel.

Former Orlando Pirates winger Vincent Pule, and goalkeeper Ricardo Goss, who returned for another two-year loan spell from Sundowns, were also added to the squad.
