SuperSport United suffer Grant Margeman blow
SuperSport United have been dealt a blow with the injury of midfielder Grant Margeman, who is now forced to spend time on the sidelines.
The Bafana Bafana international confirmed the sad news on his official Instagram account just a day before the start of the inaugural Betway Premiership campaign.
The 26-year-old played an important role for Matsatsantsa in the last term where he managed to feature in 37 matches across all competitions for the Gavin Hunt-coached side. In those 37 games, Margeman contributed one goal and weighed in with four assists.
To add to that, he helped his side finish in position seven in the SA elite league last season with 44 points from 30 outings and subsequently qualifying for the Top 8 tournament.
Margeman tore his Anterior cruciate ligament [ACL] and may be on the sidelines for six to nine months. This is a big setback for coach Hunt and the club, as they would have loved to see the talented midfielder continue where he left off last season.
GRANT MARGEMAN ON HIS INJURY PRIOR TO THE NEW SEASON
Margeman expressed his sorrow at having succumbed to the injury but thanked all the people who wished him a speedy recovery.
“Definitely not the way I thought I would start the season but the almighty has his plans for me and this too shall pass,” wrote the former Mamelodi Sundowns man.
“Gutted to have torn my ACL but immensely grateful for a successful operation. Now, to start this recovery and rehabilitation journey.
“Thank you for all the kind messages and well wishes, I appreciate you all.”
SuperSport will start their new season with a Tshwane Derby on Tuesday, 17 September against Sundowns away from home.
The much-awaited showdown will kick off at 19:30 at Loftus Versfield.
