Percy Tau strikes twice for Al Ahly on his return to action

Bafana Bafana frontman Percy Tau scored a brace on his return to action for Al Ahly when the Egyptian giants defeated Gor Mahia 3-0 in their first-leg of the CAF Champions League second preliminary round away from home on Sunday afternoon.

This comes two weeks after Tau was snubbed by Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers matches against Uganda and South Sudan.

Broos cited that the decision to exclude Tau from the Bafana final squad was to protect him because he has been receiving a lot of criticism.

PERCY TAU PLAYED THE ENTIRE GAME

Tau played the entire 90 minutes for Al Ahly after being absent from the club for quite some amidst his exit rumours from the club.

A brace from Tau and Ramy Rabia’s goal were enough to earn Al Ahly a victory away home against Gor Mahia, giving them an advantage going into the second-leg in Egypt.

A fortnight ago, the 30-year-old dismissed the rumours linking him with possible moves to clubs such as Wydad Athletic Club, Kaizer Chiefs, and Saudi Arabia during his interview with Metro FM.

The talented forward revealed that there has been no offer from any of the above-mentioned clubs for his services and added that he is happy at Al Ahly.

“When I left the club, everyone was just happy to say go on and take a break. We are not talking to anyone. I am happy at the club. The club is happy with me. Al Ahly is a big club, so there will always be reports about every individual,” said Tau.

Tau has been the Al Ahly for the past three seasons and won numerous trophies with the side, including two CAF Champions League titles, three Egyptian Super Cups, two Egyptian Cups and CAF Super Cup.
