Portuguese side FC Vizela secures Kaka Sifumba on loan

Portuguese second-division club FC Vizela has secured the services of South African midfield prodigy Luphumlo ‘Kaka’ Sifumba on a one-year loan deal with an option to buy, following successful negotiations with Cape Town City FC.

Sifumba, who made a strong impression during his recent trial with Vizela, including scoring a brace in a friendly match, caught the attention of the club’s management. His trial with Vizela followed a similar stint with Armenian first-division club FC Van.

The 19-year-old midfielder’s progress appeared to have plateaued with minimal game time. After earning the prestigious DStv Diski Challenge Player of the Season award in 2022/23 season, he quickly progressed to the Cape Town City senior team. However, opportunities to play under Eric Tinkler’s management were few and far between.

Last season, he made 12 appearances across all competitions, mostly from the bench.

Nonetheless, Sifumba’s potential has attracted interest from several clubs during this transfer window, including teams from Saudi Arabia, Albania, and Dubai. However, FC Vizela emerged as the frontrunner, with Sifumba’s agent and mentor, Steve Makhaluza, reportedly favouring a move to the Portuguese side.

Founded in 1939, FC Vizela boasts a rich history and is currently competing in Liga Portugal 2, aiming to return to the top flight after being relegated last season.

The club’s ambition and commitment to developing young talent align perfectly with Sifumba’s aspirations.

The move to Vizela presents Sifumba with a golden opportunity to showcase his skills on the European stage and continue his development in a competitive environment.

The club’s emphasis on technical midfield play and its history of nurturing young players make it an ideal destination for the talented South African.

The Citizens, recognising Sifumba’s immense potential, have placed a high value on him. The club’s decision to award him the iconic No. 8 jersey, previously worn by club legends Teko Modise and Lebo Manyama, underscores their belief in his abilities.

This loan move to FC Vizela marks a significant milestone in Sifumba’s young career. He will be looking to make significant strides in his development.
