Ramoreboli reacts to Jwaneng’s defeat against Pirates in the Champions League
Jwaneng Galaxy head coach Morena Ramoreboli has reacted to losing against Orlando Pirates in the first-leg of the CAF Champions League second preliminary round.
The Buccaneers defeated Galaxy 2-0 at the Botswana National Stadium on Saturday afternoon to take the advantage going into the second-leg next weekend.
Pirates found the back of the net in each half from goal-poacher Tshegofatso Mabasa and the Namibian international Deon Hotto.
Meanwhile, the Botswana giants eliminated Pirates in the same stage of the Champions League last season after winning 5-4 on penalties. This was after Galaxy won the first-leg 1-0 while Pirates won the return leg with the same scoreline at Orlando to take the game to penalties.
After Jwaneng Galaxy caused a big upset against Pirates in the previous campaign, Ramoreboli was confident of inflicting the same pain on the Ghosts once again.
WHAT DID MORENA RAMOREBOLI SAY AFTER LOSING AGAINST PIRATES?
The South African-born tactician admitted that he was disappointed with how his side conceded the goals.
“We are disappointed with the results but I think the performance was very good, we had our moments where we could have scored but I think we were rushing in the final third,” Ramoreboli said.
“If you look at the how they scored, from the analysis we had, we spoke about the impact of Tshego, especially in the box, to say he’ll always peel off to get a smaller space and take a shot. And that’s how they got a goal, my only disappointment is that, the goal was scored in the critical phases of the match.
“I still believe we could have done better, especially because it was seconds before half-time and the second goal, I think it came when we wanted to score a goal and we looked like we could score.
“We were putting a lot of pressure and we were very aggressive trying to get into their area to score a goal, unfortunately they got the ball in the midfield and quickly went forward. We could have done better but we delayed to track back and they managed to score the second goal.
“So even after scoring, we kept on pushing but it was not meant to be, it’s a game of football, and sometimes you need to take the results as they are. We need to go and plan for what we going to do for the second-leg.”
