Teenage sensation Asekho Tiwani speaks out after Sundowns debut

Teenage sensation Asekho Tiwani has shared his thoughts on his debut for Mamelodi Sundowns following the club’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Mbabane Swallows in the CAF Champions League second preliminary round.

The first-leg tie between Swallows and Bafana Ba Style took place at the Lucas Moripe Stadium as the Eswatini side was forced to play their home game away from home due to CAF’s strict stadium accreditation standards.

Tiwani, 19, was named in Sundowns’ starting eleven for the first time since joining the club against Mbabane for a place in the Champions League group phase. The youngster signed for the Chloorkop-based outfit in July 2024 from Limpopo club Sekhukhune United.

In the last term, the gifted left-back featured in 16 games across all competitions for Babina Noko and contributed three goals and two assists.

ASEKHO TIWANI ON HIS DEBUT FOR MAMELODI SUNDOWNS

Tiwani expressed his delight at being allowed to showcase his talent but admitted that he still has much to learn. He went on to state that the technical team will help him improve his game.

“First and foremost, I would like to give praise to God for the talent. Many thanks to the technical team for the belief and opportunity they gave me,” said Tiwani.

“It is an honour to make my debut on the biggest stage, such as the CAF Champions League. I’m grateful for being part of the club’s big win against Mbabane Swallows.

“There are many things that I still need to improve on. However, I’m happy with my performance as an individual and also as a team. I trust that coaches will assist me to improve with what I lack.”

Tiwani continued: “It takes a lot of courage and commitment, discipline to be a great human being and not only representing ourselves but for the people that came in numbers today.”

“So, we play for them, and most importantly, we play for the badge. So, we have a responsibility to represent the badge in the best possible way.”
