Chippa United head coach Kwanele Kopo has provided an update on Aphelele Teto’s progress at the club after the player’s unpleasant spell with the Scottish club Livingston FC.
Teto completed the switch to Chippa from Livingston on a season-long loan ahead of the highly-anticipated anticipated 2024/25 Betway Premiership season.
Since arriving in Livingston, the highly-rated attacker never featured for his club after failing to obtain a work permit.
Teto signed with Livingston at the start of the 2023/24 campaign from TS Galaxy. Before leaving The Rockets, Teto had a fallout with the head coach Sead Ramovic, who questioned the work ethic of the left-footed winger.
The SA junior international gained prominence in the Galaxy’s DStv Diski Challenge [DDC[] side, and he was promoted to the senior team during the 2021/22 season.
In his stint with TS Galaxy’s first team, Teto played 19 matches across all competitions and provided two assists.
The 21-year-old joined The Chilli Boys alongside Andile Jali, Boy Madingwane, Giovanni Philander, Thobani Jacobs, Sifiso Mazibuko, Blessing Jali, Gadinkame Modise, Azola Matrose and Xolani Sithole.
WHAT DID KWANELE KOPO SAY ABOUT APHELELE TETO?
With Teto aiming to fulfil the potential he has shown in the early stages of his career, Kopo says the youngster will play a big role in Chippa colours this season.

“Teto is another exciting potential. Obviously, he struggled to get a work permit because of his national team caps,” Kopo said.
“So when we had the opportunity to bring him back, we were very excited to bring him back. He’s a very exciting young player, very dynamic, and explosive going forward.
“People saw a little bit of him at TS Galaxy. I think he’s more grown now, and we think he still needs to do a bit more from the tactical aspects of his game. But he’s giving a positive energy, and we only let him go and play in the DDC because of our transition to East London, so we had a few players from our PSL team to help the DDC team just to have stability and have a good start to the league.
“So Teto will be a major part of the first team, and he’s definitely going to feature a lot in the first team. He’s very excited, and we liked what we saw in him when we were in camp.
“He was unbelievable in the [pre-season] matches against SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Kaizer Chiefs. We are excited with what Aphelele is going to offer and show to the people of Eastern Cape.”
