Stellenbosch FC agree deal to sign Chumani Butsaka

Stellenbosch FC have agreed a deal in principle to sign highly-rated Cape Town Spurs midfielder Chumani Butsaka for the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season. Butsaka has been the subject of speculation following the relegation of Spurs to the Motsepe Foundation Championship at the end of last season.

The holding midfielder was one of the outstanding performers for the Urban Warriors in the previous season. He featured in 28 appearances across all competitions, scored one goal and provided three assists. Initially, Spurs rejected the offer from Stellenbosch to sign Butsaka, however, FARPost has established that the two clubs have now reached an agreement.

Butsaka is the second Spurs player to join Stellenbosch in the current transfer window following the move for Ashley Cupido. The Maroons signed Cupido to replace their talisman Iqraam Rayners who has joined Mamelodi Sundowns in a long-term contract.

While Jayden Adams looks set to remain with Stellenbosch behind the 2024/25 campaign, the Winelands are planning ahead in case Adams moves on. Since breaking into the national over a year ago, the Bafana Bafana international has been a transfer target for Mamelodi Sundowns.

Adams who was part of the Bafana squad that won a bronze medal at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, played 35 matches last season for the Steve Barker-coached team, scored three goals and chipped in with eight assists.

Meanwhile, the Western Cape-based outfit has also signed players such as Lehlohonolo Mojela, Sanele Barns, Omega Mdaka, Brian Onyango, and Tylon Smith.
