Baroka FC announce the signing of Sibusiso Mabiliso

Baroka FC have announced the signing of ex-Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu FC defender Sibusiso Mabiliso for the 2024/25 Motsepe Foundation Championship season.

Mabiliso is joining Baroka on a free transfer after parting ways with Betway Premiership side AmaZulu in January 2024 on a ‘mutual agreement.

The left-footed defender has been a free agent for over six months after struggling to find a new club in the SA elite league.

With no suitors in the Betway Premiership, Mabiliso is downgrading to the second-tier league. This also comes after struggling for game time in his second stint with Usuthu, making only two appearances in all competitions during the 2023/24 season.

Mabiliso spent four seasons with the KZN-based side before completing a big transfer move to Chiefs in 2021.

The former SA junior international failed to make a meaningful impact at Amakhosi after playing six matches in all competitions in the 2021/22 campaign.

Following his exit from Chiefs after just one season, Mabiliso returned to AmaZulu in 2022 for his second stint. However, he failed to establish himself as a regular starter upon his return. The 25-year-old faced tough competition from Riaan Hanamub in the left-back position at the club.

In the current transfer window, Mabiliso was close to making a move to Betway Premiership newbies Magesi FC but the deal couldn’t materialise.

SIBUSISO MABILISO PENS A ONE-YEAR DEAL WITH BAROKA FC

In a bid to resurrect his once promising career, Mabiliso has penned a one-year deal with Bakgakga to add experience at the club as they push for automatic promotion to the Premiership.

“Baroka Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Sibusiso Mabiliso on a one-year contract. The 23-year-old played for Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu Football Club. Welcome Moroka.” The club announced in a statement.

The Khurishi Mphahlele-owned team missed out on promotion to the Premiership after falling short in the 2023/24 PSL Promotional/Relegation playoffs. Baroka, along with AmaTuks, lost out in the playoffs to Richards FC, who retained their status in the top league.
