Duncan Lechesa resigns from Venda FC

Venda FC coach Duncan Lechesa has resigned from his position as head at the club and is joining Marumo Gallants in the Betway Premiership, FARPost has learnt.

Lechesa has been at the Motsepe Foundation Champions club – Venda FC, since last season after taking over from Joel Masutha.

The former Polokwane City FC coach was tasked with taking the club to the Betway Premiership. But they finished 12th and narrowly escaped relegation last season.

In an interview with FARPost at the end of the previous campaign, Lechesa indicated his desire to stay at the club and help them gain promotion. The same feat he achieved twice while at Polokwane City before.

But with results also not forthcoming in the opening three games of the current Motsepe Foundation Championship season, the pressure was starting to pile on the 48-year-old.

He lost two and drew just one of the games, two of them at home. Venda FC are currently rooted second from bottom on the log and are one of the three teams that are yet to collect maximum points.

This publication has now gathered that Lechesa tendered his resignation on Tuesday. He was working alongside assistant coaches Rowan Hendricks and Khuliso Rashamuse.

FARPost has established that Lechesa could soon be appointed as an assistant coach to Dan Malesela at Gallants.

Lechesa is likely to be on the bench alongside Malesela when they face Golden Arrows on Saturday, 21 September in a league game.

Rasikan Moodley was the assistant when Gallants lost 2-1 to Kaizer Chiefs in the club’s league opening match of the season at the Toyota Stadium in Mangaung.

Efforts to solicit a comment from Lechesa were unsuccessful as his phone rang unanswered.

Venda FC’s next league match will be at home with Leruma United on Saturday, the 21st of September.
