George Maluleka joins Motsepe Foundation Championship side

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder George Maluleka has made a move to the second-tier of SA football, joining Kruger United for the 2024/25 season.

It is believed that the experienced midfield maestro, Maluleka, put pen to paper on a one-year contract with an option to extend for another season at Kruger.

He joins the Motsepe Foundation Championship side as they embark on their first season in the professional football ranks.

With over 15 years of experience in the SA top-flight, Maluleka is expected to be a key leader for Kruger. The club is aiming to make its mark in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. The five-time league winner has amassed over 360 appearances for clubs like Chiefs, Sundowns, AmaZulu FC and the University of Pretoria [AmaTuks].

It seems Maluleka has decided to drop down to the second tier after failing to secure a deal with a Betway Premiership club following his departure from AmaZulu last season. He made 17 appearances in all competitions last campaign at Usuthu.

KRUGER UNITED FC ANNOUNCE ARRIVAL OF GEORGE MALULEKA

In a brief statement, Kruger expressed their belief that Maluleka’s experience will be a valuable asset to the team.

The Bushbuckridge-based side has enjoyed a decent start to the new season. In their first three games, Kruger have accumulated four points from winning one game, drawing one, and losing one.

They earned promotion to the PSL by reaching the final of the 2024 ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs, although they ultimately fell short against Highbury FC.

“Kruger United Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of George Maluleka,” said the club in a statement. “The 35-year-old brings experience to the team. He played for Kaizer Chiefs FC, SuperSport United FC and AmaZulu FC.

“The Kruger nation welcomes you to the family and wishes you well.”

Whether Maluleka will make his debut for Kruger in their next league match against Baroka FC remains to be seen. The game will take place in Limpopo on Saturday.
