Seema’s verdict on former Chiefs defender’s debut

Sekhukhune United head coach Lehlohonolo Seema has revealed what he has made of former Kaizer Chiefs defender Njabulo Ngcobo’s debut following their 1-0 victory over Magesi FC in a Betway Premiership encounter on Wednesday night at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Ngcobo joined Babina Noko at the beginning of the 2024/25 PSL campaign from the Soweto giants, Chiefs.

The 30-year-old struggled for game time at The Glamour Boys last term, playing only 16 games across all competitions.

The talented centre-back had joined Amakhosi in July 2021 from the now-defunct Moroka Swallows. At Swallows, he was named the Defender of the Season a season before signing for Amakhosi.

Seema was happy man with Ngcobo’s performance on his debut, citing that he is a quality player.

He further stated that Sekhukhune knew that when they got Ngcobo, they acquired a defender who is a workhorse.

“I think everybody knows that he was a Defender of The Season at some stage. So, we knew that when we got him, we have got a quality defender,” said Seema in a post-match interview.

“But, I must say that his partnership with Langa [Sikhisonke] they worked very hard. It was very dangerous, as Magesi was dangerous. As you can see, Rhulani Manzini is ageing like a fine wine and worked very hard. When he got out, we thought, okay, we will get better.

“But [Gift] Motupa came through as coach Clinton Larsen wanted him there, tried him with his experience, and it’s working for them.”

Seema added: “I’m happy to have him [Njabulo Ngcobo]. He is working hard. That’s one good thing when you have a good player who puts in good effort during training and the games. So, that is a plus for the team to have him.”

Sekhukhune will now shift their focus to the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup second-leg tie against C.D. Lunda Sul over the weekend. The game will start at 18:00 on the evening at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Babina Noko suffered a 1-0 loss to Lunda Sul in the first leg away from home.
