Kaizer Chiefs shuffle squad as transfer window slams shut
As the transfer window slams shut, Kaizer Chiefs have finalised loan deals for two of their players. Newly-appointed coach Nasreddine Nabi has made it clear he wants to work with a smaller squad.
Chiefs academy graduates Sabelo Radebe and Donay Jansen will be heading out on loan for the 2024/25 season to gain valuable experience and playing time.
Sabelo Radebe, a 24-year-old midfielder who has struggled to break into the Chiefs’ starting line-up, will join Richards Bay FC. Despite impressing new coach Nasreddine Nabi during pre-season, Radebe has agreed to the move in hopes of reviving his career and securing regular playing time.
Meanwhile, Donay Jansen, a 21-year-old wing-back who recently signed a three-year contract extension with Chiefs, will spend the season at SuperSport United under the guidance of coach Gavin Hunt. Jansen made two appearances for Amakhosi last season and has been a standout performer for the Under-23s in the DStv Diski Challenge [DDC].
RADEBE AND JANSEN HEAD OUT ON LOAN
The decision to loan out these young players demonstrates Chiefs’ commitment to their development and their belief in their potential.
Both Radebe and Jansen are highly regarded by the club, and the hope is that they will return from their loan spells as more experienced and confident players ready to make a significant impact at Amakhosi in the future.
Radebe has seen little playing time in his five seasons with Chiefs, making only 17 appearances in all competitions. His most productive season with Amakhosi was in 2021/22, when he made 10 appearances and recorded one assist.
Radebe appears to have followed the advice of his former youth coach, Themba Dlamini, who suggested that he go on loan to develop as a footballer.
“When he was promoted to the first team, I saw the next Doctor Khumalo at Kaizer Chiefs. However, things didn’t go as planned for him,” Dlamini told FARPost in a recent interview.
“I think, in this case, Radebe should move away from the club on loan. He should go revive his career elsewhere, where he will get more playing time and get so much confidence.”
