Sekhukhune pulls off deadline day coup with Sipho Mbule Signing

Sekhukhune United have managed to secure the signature of highly-rated midfielder Sipho Mbule from the reigning PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns on the final day of the transfer window.

The move comes just two days after the club’s head coach, Lehlohonolo Seema, dismissed speculation linking Mbule with a move to Sekhukhune.

Mbule has struggled for consistent playing time at Sundowns and is eager to revitalise his career at Babina Noko under the guidance of Seema.

At the Tshwane giants, Mbule also faced injury challenges, recently returning to full training. The stiff competition in midfield at the star-studded Sundowns has further limited his opportunities.

With the club indicating that his game time would be reduced this season, Sekhukhune stepped in to sign him on loan. He still has a year left on his contract with Sundowns. Mbule joined on a three-year deal ahead of the 2022/23 season from SuperSport United.

And despite the club competing in six competitions last season, including the CAF Champions League, Mbule managed only 22 appearances. His contributions on the field were limited, with just one goal to his name. These statistics suggest that the 26-year-old full potential remains untapped.

SIPHO MBULE JOINS SEKHUKHUNE UNITED ON LOAN

Babina Noko released a statement just four hours before the transfer window closed, introducing their new signing Mbule. This was ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup match against Lunda Sul FC of Angola on Saturday. The game will be staged at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, where Mbule was unveiled on Friday.

“Sekhukhune United would like to announce the signing of Sipho Mbule on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns,” the club said.

“Mbule joins Babina Noko, having played 51 matches in the past two seasons at the Chloorkop-based outfit.

“Master Chef, as Mbule is affectionately known, will have his work cut out in a team that has been business-like in its acquisitions in the off-season.

“The Babina Noko family welcomes Sipho Mbule and wishes him a productive stay.”
