SuperSport to table new offer for Samir Nurkovic

SuperSport United are set to table a new offer for former TS Galaxy striker Samir Nurkovic after their initial bid was rejected.

Talks between Nurkovic’s representatives and SuperSport are ongoing, with the Tshwane side hopeful of securing the Serbian forward’s signature before their next Betway Premiership tie against Royal AM on Saturday.

Nukovic, who had a decent spell at TS Galaxy last season, scoring eight goals in 22 league matches, has been a target for SuperSport due to his experience and goal-scoring ability. The former Kaizer Chiefs hitman parted ways with Galaxy in recent weeks by mutual agreement after expressing a desire for a more significant role as a starter within the team.

With Bradley Grobler currently sidelined due to injury, SuperSport are eager to bring in an experienced striker to bolster their attacking options. Nurkovic fits the bill and has been identified as a key target by the club.

Matsatsantsa head coach Gavin Hunt has publicly declared his interest in signing the Serbian forward.

GAVIN HUNT ON SAMIR NURKOVIC: ‘HE IS A BIG OPTION FOR US’

“He’s an option, a big option for us if we can [sign him]. He’s become available. But I’m not the bean counter, so things work differently,” said Hunt. “We are in a hurry because we have a game on Saturday [against Royal AM in the league], and we’re struggling up front, playing midfield players there, so it’s a problem for us.

“Hopefully, we can do something between now and when I get on the phone again.”

While the previous offer by SuperSport was turned down, the Pretoria-based club is determined to acquire Nurkovic’s services and is seemingly prepared to increase its bid as the transfer deadline approaches.

“The offer SuperSport put on the table for Nurkovic was not good enough, but they are preparing to improve it. They want to seal the deal as soon as possible, as they don’t have an experienced striker with Grobler out. But we will see,” said the source close to the situation.

The 32-year-old striker is a free agent and can sign for any team outside of the transfer window, which is set to close tonight.
