Benson Mhlongo shares his thoughts on Pirates star Thabiso Sesane
Former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates defender Benson Mhlongo has shared his thoughts on the club’s defender Thabiso Sesane.
Sesane has been a standout performer for Pirates since last season, earning regular playing time under coach Jose Riveiro.
Since his breakthrough in the second half of last season, Sesane has made 18 appearances in all competitions this season. His partnership with Nigerian international Olisa Ndah has been particularly impressive, contributing to seven clean sheets for Pirates.
The emerging defender’s consistent performances have solidified his place in the Pirates starting line-up.
Prior to his return to the Soweto giants, Sesane gained experience through loan spells at Jomo Cosmos and All Stars FC. In the 2022/23 season, he played a key role for All Stars in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, making 29 league appearances.
WHAT BENSON MHLONGO SAID ABOUT THABISO SESANE
Mhlongo has expressed his admiration for Sesane’s ability. The ex-Pirates defender said he is pleased that Sesane seized the opportunity to showcase his talent and make a significant impact.
“That boy is talented and has got a lot of potential. I’m so happy that the coach [Jose Riveiro] saw his potential and has belief in him,” Mhlongo told FARPost.
“Now he’s a regular on the team playing week in and week out. He’s so calm on the ball; he has good handling, and he has composure.
“With that kind of player, he can go places. He’s still young, and there is room for improvement. The game of football is all about learning new things to improve. His paring with [Olisa] Ndah seems to be working out nicely again; I’m impressed.”
In addition, Mhlongo further stated that Sesane has the potential to represent Bafana Bafana in the future. He believes that consistent performances will eventually earn Sesane a call-up to the national team.
“Like I said, he’s good at what he does; I see him in the national team. He should remain consistent in his performances. I think after three seasons, he should be playing well there [Bafana Bafana],” he added.
