How Truter intends to help Kutumela rediscover his goalscoring form

Richards Bay FC coach Brandon Truter has revealed how he intends to help striker Thabiso Kutumela rediscover his goalscoring form.

Kutumela joined the KZN side ahead of the 2024/25  Betway Premiership season as a free agent after he was released by Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sundowns snapped him ahead of the 2021/22 season following a great season with Maritzburg United [now called Durban City FC].

The talented goalpoacher is known for his leadership and being ruthless in front of goal. In the 2020/21 campaign, he was the captain of Maritzburg. He racked up 14 goals and provided an assist in all competitions. The club finished 13th on the log standings.

In the two seasons he spent with the Tshwane giants he made 38 appearances in all competitions. He found the back of the net five times and grabbed six assists.

Last season, he was sent on loan to Cape Town City FC, and he didn’t impress. He played 28 matches in all competitions, scored three goals, and registered an assist.

Truter says he doesn’t want to pile pressure on Kutumela to deliver. With what Truter has seen so far during the pre-season and training, he’s optimistic the striker will deliver [score goals].

In Richards Bays’ first game of the season last week, the attacker was on the bench as the club beat TS Galaxy 1-0 at home.

“I think [Thabiso] Kutumela had one of his best seasons at Maritzburg United. We had a chat the other day regarding that so that he can rediscover that form. That’s what put him on the list of so many clubs,” said Truter.

“With him now being a key figure in the club, it’s much more important that we take away more pressure from him so he can enjoy football again.

“I think at the moment he’s playing with a smile on his face so he can do what he did in the past and even during pre-season. All is well, I hope he will perform, he’s happy at the moment.”

Kutumela is in line to make his debut for the Truter-coached side as they take on Chippa United in their second league game away from home on Saturday this afternoon.
