SuperSport poor start continues, Arrows & PLK City maintain winning streaks

SuperSport United’s poor start to the new Betway Premiership season persisted this weekend while both Golden Arrows and Polokwane City maintained their winning streaks.

This weekend witnessed only four matches in the PSL top-flight as some clubs had commitments in the continental competitions which forced other matches to be rescheduled.

Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates are part of the CAF Champions League while Sekhukhune United and Stellenbosch FC are competing in the CAF Confederation Cup.

SuperSport United were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Royal AM in a match that was played at the TUT Stadium. Matsatsantsa are still yet to taste a victory as they lost their season opener to Mamelodi Sundowns in the midweek.

Golden Arrows grabbed their second successive victory beating Marumo Gallants 2-0 under the rainy conditions at the Mpumalanga Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Abafana Bes’thende netted two quick goals in the first half, ensuring that the three points stayed in the KZN province, with Knox Mutizwa and Nduduzo Sibiya finding the back of the net for the team.

Their winning streak continued following a midweek victory over Stellenbosch, which also ended with the same scoreline.

SECOND STRAIGHT DEFEAT FOR MARUMO GALLANTS

This marks the second consecutive defeat for Dan Malesela’s team, which, despite a commendable performance, lacked the necessary precision in front of goal.

They lost their league opener at the hands of Kaizer Chiefs last week.

Meanwhile, Polokwane City, similar to Arrows, made it two out of two getting the better of their provincial rivals Magesi FC with a score of 2-0.

Puleng Marema and Sibusiso Tshabalala got on the scoresheet for the visiting side.

In their encounter, Rise and Shine downed AmaZulu 2-1 to kickstart their new season on a positive note.

For Magesi, this was their second loss in a row after suffering a defeat in their opening league match against other provincial rivals, Sekhukhune.

CHIPPA BOUNCE BACK AFTER DEFEAT AGAINST PIRATES

Chippa secured a 1-0 victory at home against Richards Bay FC in the final match of the day, which took place at the Buffalo City Stadium.

Thabiso Kutumela inadvertently scored an own goal, resulting in the home team earning the full three points.
