Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns stumble in DDC

The DStv Diski Challenge saw a series of upsets this weekend, as both Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns suffered defeats.

In the opening match, Cape Town City displayed a dominant performance, crushing Marumo Gallants 6-1. Shakeel April and Jody Ah Shene each scored two goals, while Cee-Jay Bezuidenhout and a Gallants own goal contributed to the rout.

This was the Citizens’ second successive win after they downed Stellenbosch FC 3-1 in their previous encounter. They now sit on top of the log standings with 10 points after four matches played.

Meanwhile, Gallants who are new kids on the block after buying status from Moroka Swallows, have lost four games in a row as they seem struggling to adapt in the reserve league.

They are languishing in the 16th position, even below Royal AM who haven’t played a single game this season due to the insufficient number of registered players.

The Soweto giants were one man down after Benjamin Sabre was red-carded in the additional time.

Amakhosi came to this match having won all their three first games, meanwhile, this was the first win for Matsatsantsa who had drawn all their three first games. Chiefs sit second while United are seventh on the log.

Mamelodi Sundowns also suffered their second consecutive defeat, falling 2-1 to defending champions Stellenbosch FC in a match that was played at Stade de Martyrs. This result saw Stellies climb to fourth, while Sundowns dropped to fifth.
