Khenyeza on how Arrows will avoid repeat of last season’s slump

Golden Arrows head coach Mabhuti Khenyeza has explained how his side plans to avoid what occurred last season when they started the season well but subsequently faltered.

Abafana Bes’thende have enjoyed an exceptional start to the current season, securing victories in their first two matches.

They initially beat Stellenbosch FC 2-0 away from home during the midweek, followed by another 2-0 win against Marumo Gallants at home on Saturday.

Last season, Arrows had an impressive start to the new season but gradually lost their form, ultimately suffering 11 consecutive defeats.

Khenyeza emphasized that the team has opted to refrain from dwelling on the past season, as such reflections could instill fears of repeating previous mistakes.

“I think we’re only focusing on the future, forget about the past, in the past, we only learn lessons and forgot about the past,” said Khenyeza.

“I think everyone now is just focusing on the future because if you are gonna dwell on the past, again, you’ll have fear to do something because you’ll keep saying, ‘last season’ but this is season is this season.”

Khenyeza praised his team’s performance against Gallants, highlighting their determination and eagerness to play after a lengthy pre-season.

“This is good for the players, they have been working very hard,” he added.

“They have been waiting to play for so many weeks and this belongs to them. There is a team spirit which is helping them, the fighting spirit, they fight, you can see.

“Everyone out of possession wants to defend, we win the ball we are prepared to attack. A team like Gallants is not easy to play against, they keep the ball a bit long, they can create scoring opportunities, and they have experienced players.

“We have to give credit to the boys and enjoy the moment.”
