Chippa United forced to change their home venue

Betway Premiership side Chippa United have been forced to change their Buffalo City Stadium venue due to challenging pitch conditions.

The Chilli Boys beat Richards Bay at the same venue over the weekend.

The club had initially announced that they would take their two matches to the East London facility. This includes the Richards Bay and TS Galaxy. Chippa uses the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha as their main home ground as well as the Buffalo Stadium.

But the club has since announced that their clash against Galaxy on 29 September has been moved to Nelson Mandela Bay.

“Despite the victory, we acknowledge the challenging conditions of the pitch, which were a result of severe weather conditions across the Eastern Cape, including heavy rains and even snow in certain areas,” the club said.

WHAT CAUSED CHIPPA UNITED TO MOVE THEIR GAME FROM THE BUFFALO CITY STADIUM?

“The extreme weather caused significant damage to the drainage system at Buffalo City Stadium, compromising the quality of the field. As a club committed to upholding the highest standards of football. We have decided to take immediate action by repairing and upgrading the drainage system.

“This process will take approximately five weeks, during which the stadium will be closed to allow for the necessary work to be completed.”
