Appollis advised on how to remain in demand after failed big transfer move

Polokwane City FC head coach Phuti Mohafe has offered advice to Oswin Appollis, who recently saw a high-profile transfer deal fall through.

Appollis was on wishlist of teams such as Esperance, MC Alger, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns following an impressive 2023/24 Betway Premiership season with PLK City.

The skilful winger helped Polokwane City gain automatic promotion to the SA’s top-flight at the start of last season. In his first season in the Premiership with Rise and Shine, Appollis feature in 31 appearances across all competitions, scored seven goals and chipped in with five assists.

Appollis’ eye-catching performances also earned him regular place in Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana squad in recent months.

Earlier this year, the former Pretoria Callies attacker was part of the Bafana squad that clinched a bronze medal at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

In the previous FIFA international break, Appollis scored a brace when South Africa beat South Sudan 3-2 in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

PHUTI MOHAFE TELLS APPOLIS NOT TO DROP HIS FORM DUE TO FAILED TRANSFER MOVE

After Appollis failed to complete a move in the off-season, his coach Phuti Mohafe says for the highly-rated midfielder to keep the big clubs interested in his services, he must continue producing good performances.

“I think it [failed move] hasn’t affected him that much psychologically because he knows that he has a contract at home with Polokwane City,” Mohafe said.

“He has to provide and produce good performances everyday that he plays and for him to keep those guys [big clubs] interested in him, he should give good performances. For him to remain in the national team, he has to still give good performances for the club, that is Polokwane City.”

Appollis was in the starting line-up when Rise and Shine suffered a 3-0 defeat in the league against Orlando Pirates this past Saturday at Orlando Stadium.

In the new season, the Bafana international has played two matches in all competitions and he’s yet to open his scoring account.
