Collins Mbesuma linked with a move to Venda FC
Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Collins Mbesuma is set to join Motsepe Foundation Championship side Venda FC, FARPost has established.
Mbesuma spent the past season at Betway Premiership side Sekhukhune United as a striker coach.
He was not part of the list of the technical team members when Sekhukhune announced their staff at the beginning of the season. Mbesuma previously held a similar position at Pretoria Callies following his retirement from playing.
Nicknamed ‘Ntofontofo’ during his days at Amakhosi, Mbesuma can be remembered for his heroics in the 2004/05 season with Chiefs, scoring 35 goals in all competitions. 25 of those goals in the league, a record which has not been broken ever since.
WHAT ROLE WILL COLLINS MBESUMA BE PLAYING AT VENDA FC?
Mbesuma has been spotted at the ‘Maunavhathu’ training grounds on Tuesday and Wednesday. This publication has learnt that the 40-year-old is likely to be roped into the technical team.
The club has struggled to find the back of the net this season despite bringing on board some quality players. In the four matches that they have played this season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Venda have failed to score in any of those matches while they conceded four. They are currently at the bottom of the table with just one point.
WILL LIMPOPO-BASED MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP CLUB ANNOUNCE A NEW COACH?
Venda FC recently parted ways with head coach Duncan Lechesa, who has since joined Marumo Gallants. The club has appointed Rowan Hendricks as an interim coach until further notice.
“Venda Football Club wishes to announce the resignation of its head coach, Duncan Lechesa, with immediate effect,” VFA confirmed last week.
“The club has accepted his resignation and wishes Coach Duncan all the best in his future endeavours. In the meantime, coach Rowan Hendricks will take over in an acting capacity until further notice.”
Venda FC are away to Hungry Lions on Saturday, 28 September, in their next match.
