Sirino & Miguel score as Chiefs secure victory over AmaZulu FC
Kaizer Chiefs secured a second consecutive victory, defeating AmaZulu FC 3-1 in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday night at a sold-out Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
Gaston Sirino, Inacio Miguel and Ranga Chivaviro were on the scoresheet for Amakhosi to help Nasreddine Nabi’s side maintain a winning streak, having begun their league season with a win over Marumo Gallants last week in the Free State.
Etiosa Ighodaro scored the only goal for the hosts as they tried to stage a comeback in the second-half of the game.
Amakhosi made two changes from the last match’s line-up, taking off Christian Saile and Samkelo Zwane for Wandile Duba and Njabulo Blom.
Meanwhile, Usuthu made a notable change in the goalkeeping department, bringing on Olwethu Mzimela for Veli Mothwa. Additionally, Tshepang Moremi and Abbubaker Mobara were introduced in place of Rowan Human and Wayde Jooste.
Kaizer Chiefs demonstrated early intentions to secure an advantage by launching rapid forward plays each time they gained possession of the ball. Chivaviro broke the deadlock in the 12th minute, capitalizing on a rebound from his initial shot to score.
SIRINO & MIGUEL’S FIRST GOALS IN GOLD AND BLACK COLOURS
They came back and doubled their lead just after two minutes, with Sirino scoring his first goal in the famous colours of Gold and Black shirt. He received the ball from Mduduzi Shabalala and slotted it past Olwethu Mzimela from a distance.
The Soweto giants maintained a relentless offensive, posing a significant threat each time they crossed the centre line toward the AmaZulu defence, which appeared to be lacking.
Another Chiefs new signing, Inacio Miguel rose above everyone to head home Sirino’s cross, making 3-0 for the visitors. In the 34th minute, Etiosa Ighodaro missed a free header inside the box when Riaan Hanamub located him from a free-kick spot.
Towards the end of the first stanza, The Phefeni Glamour Boys started to lower their gears, and the KZN side began to pick up.
IGHODARO PULLED ONE BACK EARLY IN SECOND HALF FOR USUTHU
Coming back from half-time, Pablo Franco Martin’s side pulled one back through Ighodaro, who capitalised from Chiefs’ defensive error. This was his second goal for the Durban-based outfit, having scored in his debut last week against Polokwane City FC.
AmaZulu gained more momentum and began launching more attacks as they looked to bounce back into the game.
Moremi came close to getting the second one for his side when he burst into the box and hit the crossbar, leaving Ntwari helpless.
Nasreddine Nabi made two changes, introducing Edson Castillo and Mfundo Vilakazi and taking off Duba and Njabulo Blom, who were still struggling somewhat with fitness.
Thereafter, it was a bit of end-to-end stuff as both sides looked to exploit the spaces behind each other’s defences.
