How Hunt’s relationship with Pogiso Sanoka fuelled the SuperSport move
SuperSport United defender Pogiso Sanoka has revealed how his relationship with coach Gavin Hunt fuelled his move to the club.
Sanoka was one of SuperSport’s acquisitions ahead of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership. He joined the Tshwane side from Mpumalanga-based outfit TS Galaxy.
His move to Matsatsantsa came as a surprise as he was The Rockets skipper. At SuperSport, the talented centre-back hit the ground running after settling very well. To date, the 32-year-old has made three appearances in all competitions and helped the team to keep one clean sheet.
POGISO SANOKA ON COACH GAVIN HUNT
Sanoka says he’s been in contact with Gavin Hunt for the past three seasons. He was supposed to join the club in the 2023/24 season, however the club opted for Siyanda Xulu.
After parting ways with Xulu in July, Hunt snapped Sanoka from TS Galaxy. He was left with two seasons on his contract with Galaxy.
“I’ve been in contact with coach Gavin [Hunt] for the past three seasons, even before when they signed Siyanda Xulu,” Sanoka told FARPost.
“That was the time when I was supposed to come in, but I don’t know what happened between my agent [Mandla Mthembu] and the club.
“Before Hunt signed Xulu, he said, ‘Boy, I want you here’. I gave my agent the go-ahead to make the move happen. After a week or two, they signed Xulu.
“Ever since then, we were still talking, he [Hunt] never gave up. He would call me and say, ‘Don’t think I have forgotten about you, keep on working’. When they came again, I accepted the offer. It was bound to happen because of our relationship, and it wasn’t a surprise to me. I was still left with two seasons at TS Galaxy.”
