Richard Ofori officially joins AmaZulu FC

AmaZulu FC have confirmed the acquisition of former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori, adding a formidable presence to their backline.

The goal-minder joins Usuthu as a free agent after the Soweto giants, Pirates, decided against renewing his contract ahead of the new Betway Premiership season.

Usuthu confirmed the news on Friday, 27 September 2024. Ofori has joined the KwaZulu Natal side on a permanent deal.

AMAZULU FC OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON RICHARD OFORI

“Amazulu Football Club have secured the services of free agent goalkeeper Richard Ofori, 30. The Ghanaian international joined the club on a permanent deal,” reads the club statement.

“Ofori, who will be joining the KwaZulu Natal team for the upcoming Betway Premiership season, is eager to make an impact.”

The ex-Maritzburg United shot-stopper said that he is delighted to have signed for AmaZulu, stating that it feels like home already.

“I’m happy to be here in KZN again. It feels like home, as KwaZulu Natal was where I first arrived in South Africa. We’re here to work and continue the journey. The team is a big club, the oldest in the country, and I’m here to contribute,” Ofori told the club’s media department.

RICHARD OFORI ON AMAZULU FC GOALKEEPERS

He went on to acknowledge that the club has top goalkeepers, and he is ready to work with them to help the club achieve its goals.

“The team has excellent goalkeepers. Together, we aim to work as a unit to help the club achieve its goals,” Ofori stated.

Last season, Ofori struggled for game time in Pirates colours, having only featured in three matches across all competitions.

Ofori will be hoping to get his mojo back and revive his football career at the Pablo Franco Martin-coached side. AmaZulu are currently placed 15th on the table in the SA elite league with no points after two games.
