DDC: Pirates humbled, AmaZulu secure back-to-back wins

Orlando Pirates suffered a humiliating defeat in the DDC with AmaZulu FC maintaining their winning streak on Saturday.

The Buccaneers were humbled by TS Galaxy’s heavy scoreline of 3-0 at Sturrock Park in Johannesburg.

The loss to the Rockets halted the winning streak of Joseph Makhanya’s men, who had previously secured victories against Sekhukhune United and Marumo Gallants.

As a result, Pirates have dropped to the fourth position in the league standings with eight points after four matches they have played.

AmaZulu secured the bragging rights in the KZN derby, hammering their provincial rivals 3-1 at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.

The goals for the winning team were scored by Bayanda Thabethe, Sipho Ngubane, and Tebogo Mashigo, while Khumalo netted a consolation goal for Abafana Bes’thende.

This was the second victory for Vusumuzi Vilakazi who took over as the head coach of Usuthu reserve side at the beginning of this season.

The Durban-based side experienced a challenging beginning to the season, managing only draws in their first three matches.

They bounced back when they acquired a slender 1-0 victory over Chippa United last week with Mashigo scoring the only goal of the match.

AmaZulu have climbed up to the third place having accumulated nine points in five matches that they have played so far.

Moreover, Richards Bay claimed a 2-0 triumph over strugglers Marumo Gallants who have now lost all their five opening games.

Wandile Ngema and Olwethu Nzimande found the back of the net for the Natal Rich Boyz.

Royal AM was set to face Cape Town City; however, the match was forfeited due to a shortage of players in the Thwihli Thwahla squad.
