Three goals in three matches: Kekana speaks on Iqraam Rayners’ form
Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana has explained the reason behind Iqraam Rayners’ great form at the club.
Its still early days, however Rayners has hit the ground running at Sundowns after finding the back of the net three times in three appearances.
The Bafana Bafana star linked with the Chloorkop-based side ahead of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership from Cape Winelands side Stellenbosch FC. Masandawana went all out for Rayners, triggering his release clause.
The 28-year-old opened his Sundowns goalscoring account against Mbabane Swallows of Eswatini in the CAF Champions League. The other two goals came in the Betway Premiership against SuperSport United and Marumo Gallants respectively.
GRANT KEKANA ON IQRAAM RAYNERS’ FORM AT SUNDOWNS
Kekana says Rayners hit the ground running because he has settled in very well and knows many familiar faces in the squad. He wishes that Rayners’ form will not drop throughout the season so he can continue helping the team by scoring many goals.
“Iqraam [Rayners] is a top guy even before at SuperSport United. For him, it was easy to gel in because there were a lot of familiar faces,” said Kekana.
“We try to make it comfortable for every new signing that comes in. He’s banging in on the goals, and we need him to continue banging on the goals throughout the season.
“For us, it is to support him. We all know that he’s a quality striker. I’m sure it’s going to be a great season for him and the club.”
Rayners is in line to spearhead the Tshwane giants’ attacking line when they take on rivals Kaizer Chiefs in a league tie. The much-anticipated encounter will take place on Saturday, 28 September, at the iconic FNB Stadium. Kickoff is at 3PM.
