Nabi reveals big January transfer window plans for Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has revealed plans for the Soweto giants to strengthen the squad in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Tunisian tactician made these revelations following Chiefs’ 2-1 defeat against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Betway Premiership at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Amakhosi drew the first blood, finding the back of the net early in the first half through Ranga Chivaviro. A lapse of concentration saw Chiefs concede two quick goals to go into the half-time break trailing by 2-1 and subsequently lost the match.

Although Chiefs fought for victory on the day, Downs quality was enough to give them maximum points to go top of the table with nine points after three games.

In the past transfer window, Chiefs signed players such as Rushwin Dortley, Bradley Cross, Fiacre Ntwari, Bongani Sam, Gaston Sirino, and Inacio Miguel.

The Glamour Boys were also linked with big-name signings of Oswin Appollis and Asanele Velebayi, however, the deals could not materialise.

Chiefs failed to reach an agreement on the transfer fee of Velebayi whereas Polokwane City chairman Jonny Mogaladi could not be reached to negotiate for Appolis.

NASREDDINE NABI GIVES CHIEFS CREDIT FOR ALLOWING HIM TO SIGN QUALITY PLAYERS IN JANUARY

“I think my striker [Chivaviro] scored today and in the previous game, it’s okay but I want the level that is more higher,” Nabi said.

“Honestly the market in Africa is very short, there’s four or five good players but big clubs like Esperance, Al Ahly, and Zamelek have already started the work [with their quality players].

“The market in Africa is not positive at the moment. For myself, I think now in October we don’t play, we only have November and December, and then the window opens in January.

“I have three months to seriously scout for quality players and players I want. I thank the club committee for giving me the budget.”
