How Benni McCarthy had an impact on Mabiliso’s game

Baroka FC defender Sibusiso Mabiliso has explained why his former coach, Benni McCarthy, was able to get the best out of him and his teammates at AmaZulu FC.

Mabiliso worked alongside the former Manchester United striker coach while at Usuthu during the 2020/12 season.

It was also the same season that Mabiliso enjoyed a run of form, which led to him joining Kaizer Chiefs. AmaZulu also finished second that season and qualified for the CAF Champions League.

Mabiliso admits that his game was on another level during McCarthy’s tenure at the club.

“He had a huge impact on my form because he was always pushing me during training sessions,” Mabiliso explained to FARPost.

“He also taught me some aspects of the game that I didn’t know. So, overall I would say he played a very important role that season at AmaZulu.

WHY WAS BENNI MCCARTHY ABLE TO GET THE BEST OUT OF SIBUSISO MABILISO AND CO?

“Obviously, he is South African, and he understands the players here. I also feel that his philosophy was similar to mine.”

“Each and every coach has their own philosophy. So, I would say no one else would have an impact. Even when I arrived at Chiefs, coach [Stuart] Baxter helped me with a lot of things to improve.”

The 25-year-old is confident that he is on his way to regaining his form in the Motsepe Foundation Championship at Baroka FC. Mabiliso is yet to play in an official match but is back on the training field.”

“Yeah, that’s the main thing for me. For me to regain my form and work hard to help the club gain promotion.”

Mabiliso is now under the watchful eye of interim coach Amulelani Hlongwane, who took over from Morgan Mammila.
