Five former PSL stars on the cusp of Zim PSL glory, as Billiat eyes the Golden boot

Five former PSL stars are on the cusp of winning Zimbabwe’s PSL title, as ex-Kaizer Chiefs star Khama Billiat guns for the Golden Boot.

Six games remain before Zimbabwe’s PSL 2024 season curtain goes down. And it is Simba Bhora FC who sit as the top of the log standings with a healthy seven-point lead ahead of their closest rivals.

They have 57 points, followed by Norman Mapeza‘s FC Platinum, who are second with 50 points on their tally.

Plausibly, Simba Bhora FC are being spurred by five former PSL stars, who have been exceptional performers.

First, former Polokwane City FC forward Walter Musona captains the team. In 27 matches, Musona has contributed nine goals, and is three goals behind the leading goalscorer.

Former Free State Stars captain and goalkeeper Talbert Shumba is part of the team. And he has kept nine clean sheets in the 15 games he played.

In addition, ex-Maritzburg United anchorman Blessing Moyo has been holding the fort in their solid midfield.

Moyo has featured in almost every game that the team has played including the only cup competition, the Chibuku Super Cup.

Former AmaZulu FC winger Talent Chawapihwa is also part of the team. Chawapihwa has had limited game time at the club due to injuries.

On the other hand, Billiat continues with his intriguing revival since finding a new home in Zimbabwe after leaving the Betway Premiership.

The 34-year-old, who recently came out of international football retirement has scored 11 goals and provided nine assists for Yadah FC.

He is tied on the same number of goals with Lynoth Chikuhwa of Highlanders FC. William Manondo of Caps United leads the perk with 12 goals under his belt.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs forward scored his 11th goal last Wednesday, the only one they needed to beat Herentals during the mid-week fixtures. He however missed Sunday’s match when Yadah drew 1-1 with Caps United due to suspension.

With six games remaining, it will not be surprising if the 2016 PSL Footballer of the Year wins the Golden Boot in what is his first season in Zimbabwe’s PSL.

In addition, he has been the driving force behind Yadah in their modest campaign, where they have reached the quarterfinals of the country’s only cup competition.
