Fabian McCarthy picks Betway Prem side that made good business in transfer window
Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Fabian McCarthy has praised the transfer window dealings of a Betway Premiership club, highlighting their strategic acquisitions as key to their potential success this season.
The transfer window officially closed on Friday, September 20th, bringing an end to player transfers between clubs.
However, teams still have the option to sign free agents who are not currently contracted to a club.
The transfer window provides clubs with a crucial opportunity to strengthen their squads and prepare for the upcoming season, aiming to build on their previous performances.
The 47-year-old believes that Cape Town City FC did well in bolstering its squad for the 2024/25 season.
FABIAN McCARTHY SAYS CAPE TOWN CITY DID GOOD BUSINESS IN THE TRANSFER WINDOW
The Capetonians were one of the busiest sides in the market, bringing in several new faces. This includes Carlinhos, Prins Tjiueza, Haashim Domingo, Kayden Francis, Kamohelo Mokotjo, Fortune Makaringe, Elson Sithole, Lefa Aphane and Sibusiso Ziba.
“The team that has done good business in terms of signing players, I have to say, is Cape Town City FC,” McCarthy told FARPost.
“Why I’m saying so is because they signed experienced players and young talent to improve their squad. They brought in interesting players like [Kamohelo] Mokotjo, [Fortune] Makaringe and [Haashim] Domingo. We all know what these players can do.
“Now the responsibility is from the coach and senior players to share [playing time]. They need to bring in these youngsters and integrate them in the team. With the transfers they made, it has brought in balance in the team compared to the previous season.”
McCarthy further tipped CT City to finish as high as possible than last season. In the 2023/24 campaign, the Citizens finished fifth on the log standings.
“I think this season they got all it takes to finish higher at the top than last season once the team gels well together,” he added.
