Grant Kekana addresses ‘small glitch’ at Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns star player Grant Kekana has addressed a ‘small glitch’ within the Tshwane giants that contributed to a recent slump in performance.
The 2016 CAF Champions League winners kicked off the 2024/25 season by participating in the MTN8. Although they reached the semi-finals, their journey ended with a 2-0 aggregate loss to Stellenbosch FC.
Following the MTN8 disappointment, Sundowns experienced a resurgence in form. The team has been on a winning streak in their last five matches across all competitions, including the Champions League and the Betway Premiership.
In the Champions League, Sundowns cruised past Mbabane Swallows 8-0 on aggregate to qualify for the group stage. Meanwhile, in the Betway Premiership, they are currently tied for first place with Orlando Pirates, both with nine points.
In addition Sundowns have recorded impressive victories over SuperSport United [2-0], Marumo Gallants [4-1], and Kaizer Chiefs [2-1].
WHAT GRANT KEKANA SAID ABOUT SUNDOWNS’ MINOR SETBACK
Kekana admitted that Sundowns had a slow start to the season but emphasised the team’s ability to overcome this initial challenge.
The Bafana Bafana star also mentioned that despite the early struggles, the team remained calm and focused, and under coach Manqoba Mngqithi’s guidance, they have successfully turned things around.
“I think it was just a small glitch [setback]. We started slow, but we were performing well. That is something we want to improve as a team going forward,” said Kekana.
“But there was no panic buttons from us or anything from us at the club [players and coaches]. Now its quite well and I’ve been with him [coach Manqoba Mngqithi] ever since I have been at Sundowns.”
