JDR Stars eyeing loan move for Pirates midfielder

Motsepe Foundation Championship side JDR Stars are eyeing a loan move for Orlando Pirates midfielder Azola Tshobeni.

Tshobeni is seemingly not on the plans of Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro after failing to make it to the match day squad since returning to his parent club.

The left-footed attacker spent three seasons on loan with JDR Stars to get game time and gain much-needed experience. In his three-season stay at the Pretoria-based side, Tshobeni scored two goals in 70 league appearances.

Meanwhile, Tshobeni gained promotion to the Pirates’ first team after producing impressive performances in the club’s development side.

The 22-year-old made six appearances in all competitions for the Soweto giants in the 2020/21 season before going out on loan.

While Tshobeni participated in the Pirates’ pre-season activities in preparation for the new 2024/25 campaign, indications are that the youngster could be loaned out in the next transfer window.

A source close to the information told FARPost that Stars tried to get Tshobeni before the transfer window closed over two week ago, on September 20th; however, the deal couldn’t happen.

This publication reached out to the club chairman Nditsheni Nemasisi who revealed that his charges will push for Tshobeni’s move in January 2025 during the transfer window.

“At the moment, Azola Tshobeni is with Orlando Pirates. He was one of our important players last season. We will try to have conversations about Tshobeni coming to us in January,” Nemasisi said.

In the current campaign, the highly-rated winger is competing with Monnapule Saleng, Patrick Maswanganyi, Mohau Nkota, Relebohile Mofokeng, Kabelo Dlamini, Karim Kimvuidi, and Thuso Moleleki in the attacking midfield role.

In addition, Pirates have had an impressive start to the 2024/25 season after winning all their opening games in the Betway Premiership. They are also in the final of the MTN8, where they’ll face Stellenbosch FC on Saturday, 05 October 2024, at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. Kickoff is at 18h00.
