Majoro on why he expected CT City to reach MTN8 final, not Stellenbosch
Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates striker Lehlohonolo Majoro has explained why he initially expected Cape Town City in the MTN8 final and not Stellenbosch FC.
Stellies swept Mamelodi Sundowns away to reach their second cup final within 12 months.
They are set to face Orlando Pirates in a quest for silverware on Saturday at Moses Mabhida Stadium, commencing at 6 pm.
Majoro expressed that his expectations for Cape Town City to advance to the final were based on the high-caliber signings they made to enhance their squad for the current season.
He believes Cape Town City had a very successful transfer window, acquiring exactly what they needed to strengthen their team.
MAJORO EXPLAINS HIS PREDICTION OF CT CITY IN MTN8 FINAL
“The team that I was looking at, was Cape Town City based on the experienced players that they have brought,” said Majoro.
“And I know John Comitis is the person that makes calculated moves. But this was the first time he went all out and fetched really tested individuals to bring them into the team.
“So, I thought Cape Town City was going to be the one that goes in the Stellenbosch’s position.
“But Stellies, when I sat back and did my research, I realised they had a plan, a five-year plan where they said within five years we want to win one trophy, we want to sell four players.
“Fast forward to now, they managed to win one trophy and surpassed the goal of selling four players by doubling that, selling eight players.
“But still we that being said they’re in yet another final. So, I’m happy with Stellenbosch based on them taking that development, DDC seriously because every time they sell someone, they bring that player [from DDC] and they fit like a glove.
“So, it shows there’s a bit of a relationship between the DDC coach and the first team coach and I think that many teams can adopt because they spend less.”
