Magesi face fight to keep Clinton Larsen amidst Usuthu interest

Clinton Larsen, the mastermind behind Magesi FC’s promotion to the Betway Premiership, is reportedly considering a swift departure from the Limpopo club with AmaZulu FC calling.

Just four games into their maiden top-flight campaign, whispers suggest Larsen could be lured away by the vacant coaching position at Usuthu.

Despite guiding Magesi to Betway Premiership promotion after winning the 2023/24 Motsepe Foundation Championship title, Larsen’s tenure has gotten off to a rocky start. A solitary win against Golden Arrows is sandwiched between defeats to Sekhukhune United and Polokwane City FC and a draw with Chippa United.

Sources indicate that this challenging beginning, coupled with AmaZulu’s interest, has prompted Larsen to contemplate a move. Magesi’s management is reportedly scrambling to convince the veteran coach to stay. They recognise the crucial role he could play in their fight for survival

AmaZulu, meanwhile, are reeling after parting ways with Pablo Franco Martin following a disastrous start to the season. Three consecutive losses have left the Durban-based club languishing at the bottom of the table.

Larsen, with his extensive Premiership experience at clubs like Bloemfontein Celtic, Chippa United, and Golden Arrows, appears to be a prime candidate for the AmaZulu hot seat.

FARPost understands the club has approached him about becoming head coach.

Despite initial interest from the club, negotiations with McCarthy have reportedly stalled. McCarthy recently departed from Manchester United. At the English Premier League giants, he served as a forwards coach. The legendary former striker is without a club at the moment.

McCarthy has publicly expressed his desire to manage a team competing in next year’s FIFA Club World Cup. This may have influenced his decision regarding AmaZulu.
