Leruma United stun Spurs, Upington City FC keep rolling
Leruma United pulled off a major upset in the Motsepe Foundation Championship on Saturday, beating Cape Town Spurs 2-0 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
The PSL newcomers Leruma bounced back from their 3-0 loss against JDR Stars last weekend at Lucas Moripe Stadium. The Gauteng-based side is new in the second tier after purchasing the status of Marumo Gallants, who bought Moroka Swallows’ in the Betway Premiership.
So far, Leruma United have played six matches in the league. They won two games and lost four times, collecting six points.
Elsewhere, Upington City FC maintained their impressive run following a 1-0 victory over Venda FC at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium on Saturday.
The Gucci Boys are unbeaten in their last five matches in the NFD having lost the opening match of the season against JDR Stars in August.
Upington City will be looking to gain promotion to the SA’s top-flight after missing out in the previous season as Magesi FC clinched automatic promotion.
Meanwhile, Milford FC defeated Highbury 2-0 at Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday to remain unbeaten since the start of the 2024/25 campaign.
In the six matches played so far, the KZN-based side won four games and drew twice. They are currently sitting top of the log standings with 14 points. Milford and Durban City FC are the only two teams that have yet to taste defeat in the Championship this season.
AMATUKS SLOW START TO THE NEW SEASON CONTINUES
In addition, AmaTuks’ slow start to the season continued after losing 1-0 against Orbit College at Olympia Park Stadium on Saturday. The loss left Tuks sitting 11th on the league table after collecting six points.
