SA teams learn their fate in CAF inter-club group stage draw
SA teams Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, and Stellenbosch FC have learned their fate in the 2024/25 CAF inter-club group stage draw.
The draw for the Champions League and Confederation Cup group stage was held in Cairo, Egypt, on Monday, 7 October 2024.
This comes after the successful journey of the preliminary rounds for both competitions, which started in August of this year.
The CAF started with the Confederation Cup draw at 14:00 [SA time], which was followed by the CAF Champions League draw at 15:00.
WHO ARE SA CLUBS FACING IN THE CAF INTER-CLUB GROUP STAGE DRAW?
Mamelodi Sundowns are pitted in Group B with Raja CA, ASFAR Club, and AS Maniema Union.
In the last term, Bafana Ba Style were eliminated in the semi-finals of the Champions League by the Tunisian side, ES Tunis.
Masandawana suffered a 2-0 loss to ES Tunis on aggregate, ending their dream of reaching the tournament’s finals.
On the other hand, Pirates are in Group C of the Champions League alongside the defending champions Al Ahly, CR Belouizdad, and Stade d’Abidjan.
The Buccaneers qualified for the Champions League group stage for the first time in five years.
Meanwhile, Stellenbosch are drawn in Group B with RS Berkane, Stade Malien, and CD Lunda Sul.
