Miguel Timm opens up on lack of game time at Pirates

Orlando Pirates midfielder Miguel Timm has opened up on his recent lack of playing time at the club.

Timm, who joined the Buccaneers in 2022 from Marumo Gallants, was at some point one of the most trusted regular starters in Jose Riveiro’s team. His tenacity earned him significant respect from the Ezimnyama Ngenkani faithful.

However, the arrival of Thalente Mbatha from SuperSport United in the middle of the previous season led to the 32-year-old’s gradual decline in the pecking order.

This season, he has made only two appearances across all competitions, appearing in one MTN8 and one CAF Champions League game, both as a substitute.

Timm expressed a strong desire to be on the pitch, yet he said he possesses the experience necessary to navigate this challenging period.

TIMM SAYS HE HAS EXPERIENCE TO HANDLE LACK OF GAME TIME ISSUE

“You come into this sport, knowing that it’s not boxing, it’s not tennis, you’re not doing this on your own,” said Timm in an interview with Marawa Sports Worldwide.

“Of course, you want to play, you want to be involved all the time. That’s what you work for.

“I think I have enough experience to know how to conduct myself when things are not going the way you’d want, obviously not making the squad or sometimes on the bench.

“I’m not the type of player to also ask hierarchy – whether it’s management or technical team, I respect the decisions and choices.”

Timm believes that expressing dissatisfaction about not playing would be illogical especially with the team having had a bright start to the 2024/25 season.

TIMM SEES NO NEED TO COMPLAIN AS PIRATES ARE DOING WELL

“And what can I complain about at this moment because when you see the record now from the start of the season, we haven’t lost a game yet.

“So, it’s about continuing to work on myself, being an example, there’s a lot of young players.

“We train together in the morning, I don’t think it would be a good look for me to be dragging my feet or sulking when you have a lot of young players who are trying to push and get there.

“And instead, I choose the other route to being an example, continue having a good work ethic. That’s all that I’m in control of, the rest is not up to you.

“Like I said, give it your best, it’s still a privilege to be part of this club. I couldn’t be happier, yes you want to play more but I think we have a long season ahead.

“Hopefully, I get to see some minutes later on in the season. But continue to be patient, continue to work hard and continue to be supportive of management, the technical team and most importantly the players.

“I’ve seen it happen in the past when I was younger, individuals that are more experienced and are not playing can become disruptive.

“I don’t want to be known as that type of player.”
