Relebohile Mofokeng reaches major milestone in Pirates colours
Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates starlet Relebohile Mofokeng has continued to excel and defy expectations by reaching a major milestone at the Soweto giants.
Mofokeng has been a cornerstone of Pirates’ success under coach Jose Riveiro. Since his breakthrough in 2023, the youngster has consistently impressed, becoming a regular in the starting line-up.
At just 19, Mofokeng has already clinched four titles with The Sea Robbers: two MTN8 trophies and two Nedbank Cups. His impressive performances have earned him recognition at the national level, with a Bafana Bafana debut against Zimbabwe in June.
As Mofokeng is in camp with Bafana as they prepare for their upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Congo, his star continues to ascend.
RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG REACHES 50-GAME MILESTONE FOR PIRATES
The Soweto giants announced on Tuesday that the talented attacker has reached a 50-game mark for the club in the sold-out MTN8 final against Stellenbosch at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday.
Mofokeng’s impact was instrumental in Pirates’ historic MTN8 triumph. His goal and assist helped secure a 3-1 win over Stellenbosch FC, making Pirates the first club in PSL history to win the tournament three years in a row.
Pirates described Mofokeng’s achievement as “particularly remarkable given that he was only promoted to the senior team last year, and his impact has been nothing short of sensational.
In those 50 appearances, the baby-faced assassin—or, as some might say more aptly, the president of ama2000—has amassed 19 goal contributions, nine goals, and 10 assists.
Mofokeng’s journey to this milestone began in the latter stages of the 2022/23 season. Despite limited playing time, he showcased his potential with a goal and an assist in two appearances.
In the following campaign, Mofokeng truly came into his own, featuring in 38 matches across all competitions and contributing five goals and six assists. His impressive performances earned him the DStv Premiership Young Player of the Season and Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player of the Tournament awards.
The current season has seen Mofokeng continue his upward trajectory. In 10 matches, he has already netted three goals and provided three assists. As he approaches his 51st appearance for Pirates, Mofokeng’s future looks incredibly bright.
