‘It’s never too early..’: Brandon Petersen on Chiefs’ trophy ambitions

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has made a bold claim on their silverware ambitions while adjusting to Nasreddine Nabi’s system.

The Soweto giants are somewhat undergoing a well-knit reconstruction under the guidance of the Tunisian mentor.

Nabi assembled his technical team, whilst signing seven players to strengthen the Soweto giants in all departments.

His technical team members include assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef and Safi Majdi who is the strength and conditioning coach. They also have goalkeeper coach Ilyes Mzoughi, who doubles up as Mauritania national team mentor for goalies.

Meanwhile, Fernando Da Cruz, who was his other assistant, left the club to join the Moroccan Football Federation.

The new players include Bongani Sam who joined them from Orlando Pirates. Goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari who was signed from TS Galaxy.

Rushwin Dortley, Gaston Sirino, Inacio Miguel, Bradley Cross and Njabulo Blom joined the team from Cape Town Spurs, Mamelodi Sundowns, Petro de Luanda, Golden Arrows and St. Louis City SC

In addition, at the moment, Nabi is beset with finding another striker as backup for his marksman Ranga Chivaviro.

WHAT THE GOALKEEPER BRANDON PETERSEN SAID

Nevertheless, outspoken goalkeeper Petersen believes there are no excuses for them not to account for some silverware this season.

Petersen said their sights are set on the 2024 Carling Knockout Cup where they were drawn against SuperSport United in the Last 16. He reckons winning the Carling Knockout Cup will be a stepping stone.

“It’s never too early. As I said, for a team like Chiefs, we should be competing for trophies season in, season out,” Petersen said.

“Yes, we have a new technical team, new coach, new players. But, for me, starting with the Black Label Cup, we should push for that trophy. That could be our stepping stone and set the pace for the season.”

Meanwhile, Petersen is back at training after a brief spell on the sidelines due to injury. And it will be interesting to see the competition between him, Ntwari and Bruce Bvuma.
