Wandile Duba’s honest take on Relebohile Mofokeng’s rise
Kaizer Chiefs forward Wandile Duba has offered a candid assessment of the contrasting journeys he and Orlando Pirates rising star Relebohile Mofokeng have experienced.
While acknowledging Mofokeng’s impressive achievements, Duba highlighted the differing circumstances they’ve faced in their young careers.
Mofokeng recently marked his 50th appearance for Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 final and has enjoyed a meteoric rise.
At just 19, he has already secured two Nedbank Cup and two MTN8 winners’ medals, scoring decisive goals in both finals last season and this year.
His contributions to the Buccaneers have been significant, with nine goals and 10 assists in his 50 appearances.
Duba, on the other hand, has had to navigate a more challenging environment at Chiefs. The club has undergone a period of instability, with frequent coaching changes and a lack of silverware in recent years.
This has undoubtedly impacted the young striker’s development and opportunities.
‘I’VE HAD TO DEAL WITH MANY COACHING CHANGES’: WANDILE DUBA
“The difference between us is that I was playing in a struggling team while he was at a well-structured club with less pressure,” Duba explained.
“Pirates are doing well, so everything he does looks good. I’ve also had to deal with many coaching changes, whereas he’s had stability with one coach.”
Despite these challenges, Duba remains determined to make his mark at Chiefs. He credits new coach Nasreddine Nabi with positively influencing his development, showcasing his versatility by deploying him on the wing.
“Coach Nabi has really changed my mentality and is helping me grow as a player,” Duba shared.
“I never thought I could play on the wing, but he saw my speed and intelligence and believed I could do it. I’m happy to play wherever the coach needs me.”
While Mofokeng has benefited from stability and success at Pirates, Duba has had to overcome adversity and uncertainty at Chiefs.
Both players possess immense talent and potential, making their respective journeys fascinating to follow in the years to come.
