Former striker reveals why Black Leopards are ‘finally’ on the right path
A former Black Leopards striker has revealed why he believes the club is finally on the right path to reclaim their place in the SA elite league after a few turbulent years in the second-tier league.
Once a decent side in the SA top-flight, Leopards’ fortunes have dwindled in recent years. Relegated from the Betway Premiership in 2020/21, the Limpopo-based side has struggled to find their footing in the lower divisions.
Their yo-yo status, with three relegations in the 2007/08, 2012/13, and 2020/21 campaigns, has been a major concern for fans.
The club’s decline reached a new low in the 2022/23 season when they were relegated to the ABC Motsepe League for the first time in 22 years. However, Leopards managed to return to the professional ranks by purchasing the status of All Stars FC.
Despite a disappointing performance in the previous season, Lidoda Duvha have shown signs of improvement in the current campaign. With three wins, two draws, and one defeat in six matches, they currently sit fifth on the log. This positive start suggests that Leopards may be on the right track to regain their top-flight status.
WHAT RODNEY RAMAGALELA SAID ABOUT HIS FORMER TEAM BLACK LEOPARDS
The retired striker Ramagalela believes Black Leopards have all it takes to gain promotion back to the Betway Premiership this season. Leopards stand a chance to win the league title or to qualify for the playoffs.
“I think, for me, it comes down to the players; they do have players. They have won three games, drew two and suffered one loss; that’s a good start,” Ramagalela told FARPost.
“The coach [Maxwell Konadu] has come up with something different; the players are showing commitment and discipline in the team. They just need to keep going and keep the same form, and they might stand a chance [for promotion].
“They are a team that knows how to be promoted. If they don’t win the league, I’m seeing them in the [PSL Promotional/Relegation] playoffs.”
