Peter Koutroulis clarifies ‘misconception’ about his Magesi exit
Former Magesi FC technical advisor Peter Koutroulis has clarified what he says was a ‘misinformed’ statement by the club CEO John Mathibe regarding his departure.
Koutroulis spent a season at the Limpopo club while they were campaigning in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The club has since been promoted to the Betway Premiership for the first time in their history. But the well-travelled administrator left to join Casric Stars who are in the lower division.
During the player unveiling in July, Magesi CEO John Mathibe told the media that the club did not engage with Koutroulis to extend his stay after his one-year deal elapsed.
WHAT MAGESI FC SAID ON THE DEPARTURE OF THEIR FORMER TECHNICAL ADVISOR
“Well, Mr Koutroulis is no longer with us. He had a one-year contract with us, which elapsed on the 30th of June 2024,” Mathibe said at the time.
“So, we never engaged or did anything in order to extend his stay from there for the upcoming season.”
But Koutroulis has since clarified the issue. He says only he and the chairman know why he left, and no one else.
WHAT PETER KOUTROULIS TOLD FARPOST ABOUT HIS MAGESI FC DEPARTURE
“I must make it clear to everyone because I read a statement from Magesi CEO [John Mathibe] saying the club never renewed my contract. Listen to me. No one from Magesi, except me and the Chairman, knows what we spoke about in our last meeting,” he told FARPost.
“Now to make it clear, people must not rush and say Magesi never renew my contract. Between me and the Chairman, we sat down and I told him a few things, that’s all.
“I did my job there. I can not just leave a club after they gain promotion. But I also don’t want to put my name if the club gets relegated, and you say it’s Peter Koutroulis,” added the ex-Mamelodi Sundowns general manager.
