Prosport International CEO Mike Makaab has provided details on the contract of Vusumuzi Vilakazi at AmaZulu FC. Vilakazi was recently appointed as the co-coach alongside Arthur Zwane to lead the KZN-based side for the 2024/25 Betway Premiership.
The two coaches are taking over the coaching reins from Pablo Franco Martin who was fired over a week ago following a dismal start to the new season. In the current campaign, AmaZulu lost all their opening three matches in the league and they are sitting at the bottom of the log. Usuthu suffered defeats against Polokwane City, Kaizer Chiefs, and Marumo Gallants.
After the Spanish coach was fired at AmaZulu, the club was linked with a handful of coaches including Clinton Larsen. However, the deal for the experienced mentor could not materialise. Having failed to lure their preferred candidates for the coaching job, AmaZulu brought Arthur Zwane on board from Chiefs while Vilakazi was promoted from the club’s DStv Diski Challenge side.
‘Kanu’ as he’s affectionately known joined AmaZulu in the off-season following his abrupt departure from rivals Richards Bay FC.
VUSUMUZI VILAKAZI SIGNS WITH AMAZULU UNTIL THE END OF THE SEASON
With the former Golden Arrows coach alongside Zwane aiming to turn the fortunes for the Sandile Zungu-owned team, Makaab has revealed that Vilakazi signed a contract until the end of the season.
“The move is co-coaches between Arthur Zwane and Vusumuzi Vilakazi as it has been described by the club. Vilakazi signed with AmaZulu from now until the end of the season.” Makaab told FARPost.
In a bid to turn the corner for AmaZulu, the coaching duo will have the first assignment in the Carling Knockout Cup where they going to face defending champions Stellenbosch FC on Friday, 18 October 2024.
The clash against Stellies will be followed by a tough league encounter against Orlando Pirates on the 25th of October at Orlando Stadium.
