Aubrey Ngoma points out the stark contrast between Pirates and Sundowns title pursuit

Aubrey Ngoma has revealed the stark contrast between Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates in their pursuit for the Betway Premiership title.

Ngoma played for both the SA football giants Sundowns and Pirates after starting his professional career with AmaTuks during the 2012/13 season.

He also played for Pirates from 2012 until 2015. In addition, he had two seasons at Sundowns. He also spent some time at Cape Town City FC and SuperSport United.

The 35-year-old has been keenly following his former teams, Sundowns and Pirates, as they are touted to wrestle for the 2024/25 Betway Premiership title this season.

Pirates have already accounted for the MTN8 Cup and have won all three league matches played so far. Sundowns also won their three matches, notably beating Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs along the way.

NGOMA SHARES HIS THOUGHTS ON PIRATES AMBITIONS TO OUTSMART SUNDOWNS IN THE LEAGUE

And while Pirates faithful feel this is the right season for their team to win the PSL title, having excelled in cup competitions, Ngoma believes there is still a thin line between them and Sundowns.

In an interview with FARPost, Ngoma revealed what he thinks is the striking difference between the two giants.

“Both teams are well assembled but the difference is how they apply themselves in all competitions. Pirates win cup competitions easily because players know there are incentives at the end,” he said.

“Pirates invest so much in the four games that give them a cup title. But they haven’t mastered the ability to win so many games consistently in the league. Of which Sundowns are able to do that. In fact, they make it a point that they avoid a defeat and at least win 80 per cent of each ten games they play.

“But in terms of quality, they could be at par. It will also be interesting to see Kaizer Chiefs rising and challenging for the title. Their start has been decent.

“But for Sundowns, that ability to last long in 30 games makes them different. That’s why they have won the league seven consecutive times,” Ngoma told FARPost.

The Hammanskraal-born ex-winger enjoyed an exceptional playing career, which was marked by three PSL titles, two MTN8 trophies, and two Telkom Knockout titles with Sundowns and CT City, respectively.

He also won individual awards, such as the PSL Midfielder of the Season and Telkom Knockout Player of the Tournament. Notably, he featured in over 100 matches for CT City, scoring 18 goals while providing 24 assists.
