Carling Knockout quarter-finals draw set for thrilling matchups

The quarter-final draw for the Carling Black Label Knockout Cup has produced an exciting line-up of matches that will excite football fanatics in the country.

PSL confirmed the 2024/25 Carling Knockout Last 8 draw following the conclusion of the Round of 16 games on Sunday, 20 October 2024.

A big match of the quarter-finals will be Kaizer Chiefs against Mamelodi Sundowns, who have already met in the league earlier this month.

The draw was conducted immediately after the Richards Bay FC and Sekhukhune United game and was broadcast live on SuperSport Channel 202 and SABC Sport.

WHEN DID THE CARLING KNOCKOUT CUP START?

The Last 16 games began with excitement on Friday, 18 October, as Stellenbosch FC, the defending champions, advanced to the quarter-final. During a demanding match at King Zwelithini Stadium, the Cape team came out on top against AmaZulu FC, winning 2-1 after a gruelling 120-minute battle.

Magesi secured their spot in the quarter-finals by pulling off a major upset, beating Orlando Pirates 3-2 at Orlando Stadium on Saturday, 19 October 2024.

Marumo Gallants also cruised their way into the Carling Knockout Cup Last 8 following their 3-2 win over Polokwane City FC at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Later on Saturday evening, Sundowns handed Golden Arrows a humbling 5-0 defeat in the Round of 16 at Lucas Moripe Stadium, whereas Chiefs demolished SuperSport United with a 4-0 scoreline at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Cape Town City FC defeated Royal AM 3-0 at Athlone Stadium in the final game on Saturday night.

On Sunday, 20 October, TS Galaxy managed to secure a hard-earned 1-0 win against Chippa United after extra time at Mbombela Stadium.

The last game of the Round of 16 saw Natal Rich Boyz beat Babina Noko 1-0 at King Zwelithini Stadium, booking a spot in the tournament’s quarter-finals.

THE DRAW PROCEDURE BY PSL

In accordance with the competition guidelines, the quarter-finals draw was seeded.

a) The draw was conducted using three bowls labelled Pot A, Pot B, and Pot C.

b) Pot A contained the names of the four seeded clubs [those that finished in the highest positions in the previous Premiership season].

c) Pot B was empty and used to determine home and away designations.

d) Pot C contained the names of the remaining four unseeded clubs.

The champion of the Carling Knockout will take home R6.85 million, while the second-place finisher will receive R2.85 million.

The PSL will announce the dates, venues, and times in the coming days for the quarter-finals matches.
