Pitso Mosimane gives candid assessment of Chiefs star Sirino

Newly appointed Esteghlal FC coach Pitso Mosimane has given his candid assessment of Kaizer Chiefs star Gaston Sirino.

The attacking midfielder – Sirino has had a flying start to life at Chiefs, forming a big part of the club’s rival under the guidance of Nasreddine Nabi in the new season.

Sirino joined Amakhosi in the off-season on a free transfer after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the 2023/24 Betway Premiership season.

In his bright start at Chiefs, Sirino featured in four matches in all competitions, scoring two goals and chipping in with two assists.

The 33-year-old scored the opening goal when the Soweto giants defeated SuperSport United 4-0 in the Carling Knockout Cup Last 16 at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane this past weekend. Other players that were on the scoresheet for Chiefs are Ranga Chivaviro, Yusuf Maart, and Ashley Du Preez.

Mosimane and Sirino formed a successful partnership at Sundowns. Mosimane signed Sirino in 2018, and they celebrated numerous domestic triumphs together. However, Sirino’s fortunes changed under coach Rulano Mokwena, who eventually left the club as well.

“Class is permanent, top talent, loves training, has a lot of passion for the game, and is opinionated. A bit emotional but manageable. A South American player,” Mosimane said on his social media.

The ex-Al Ahly and Sundowns coach, Mosimane, continued to engage with his followers on social media, discussing Sirino’s strengths as an attacking player. “He scores goals and has lots of assists, a very crucial ingredient in an attacking player.”

In the off-season, the highly-rated midfielder joined Chiefs alongside Bongani Sam, Rushwin Dortley, Bradley Cross, Fiacre Ntwari, Inacio Miguel, and Njabulo Blom [loan].

Sirino will be looking to help the Glamour Boys overcome his former side Sundowns in the quarter-finals of the Carling Knockout Cup.
