Thabo Nodada’s rallying cry to Cape Town City FC teammates
Cape Town City FC midfielder Thabo Nodada has issued a rallying cry to his teammates as they continue to navigate the challenges of the 2024/25 PSL season.
Nodada has recently recovered from a long-term injury he sustained last season. He is expected to return to action soon, as he has not played in the new campaign yet.
In previous seasons, CT City has consistently secured a spot in the top eight, with Nodada being one of the key players. However, the team’s progress has been hindered by inconsistent performances in recent times.
In the current season, the team has achieved both positive and negative results. In seven matches across all competitions in Betway Premiership, MTN8, and Carling Knockout Cup, they have secured three victories, two draws, and suffered two defeats.
NODADA SAYS CAPE TOWN CITY MUST WIN SILVERWARE THIS SEASON
The 29-year-old has called upon his teammates to break their curse of failing to win trophies. The last time CT City won a trophy was back in the 2018/19 campaign when they won the MTN8. At that time, the team was under the guidance of Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy.
In the current season, the Cape Town-based outfit was knocked out of the MTN8 in the semi-finals by the champions Orlando Pirates. In the Carling Knockout Cup, they secured a spot in the quarter-finals by defeating Royal AM 3-0, and they will now play against Richards Bay FC.
With CT City in the last eight of the Carling Knockout, they still have the opportunity to vie for the league title, although it will be challenging. Additionally, they are in contention for the Nedbank Cup.
“We’re a team that is under pressure at this point in time. The players are performing and achieving results below the levels that they should be,” Nodada told FARPost.
“The new players that have come in have been brought to that pressure. Everyone knows what’s at stake and knows what needs to be done. We can compete and at least bring silverware this season.
“I have no doubt we will rise above the pressure. We have all the capabilities to be one of the best teams in the league. We got the exact people [players] that we needed. As time goes on, you will be telling me, ‘Thabo, you were right’. Just wait for it.”
