‘Don’t call me if you’re going to fire another coach’: Tshepo Motsoeneng
Former Bizana Pondo Chiefs coach Tshepo Motsoeneng has outlined his expectations for his next coaching job while awaiting offers.
The well-travelled coach has been out of work since cutting ties with SAFA KwaZulu-Natal side Njampela FC at the beginning of this month, having joined the club last season.
Motsoeneng and Njampela had a successful run in the previous term, winning the KZN ABC Motsepe League. The coach subsequently led the team to the national playoffs in Upington, Northern Cape, in June 2024.
Regrettably, the club was knocked out in the semi-finals of the national playoffs by Highbury FC, who are now playing in the PSL – Motsepe Foundation Championship.
After the national playoffs, Njampela played in the Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi Legacy Cup, winning it by beating Betway Premiership side Richards Bay FC 4-3 in a penalty shootout.
TSHEPO MOTSOENENG ON HIS NEXT MOVE AFTER NJAMPELA FC DEPARTURE
The ex-goalkeeper of SuperSport United and Santos FC emphasised that any team interested in his services must share their vision and ensure it matches his own.
“As a coach, you are judged by the results. People know my resume. I just came back from the ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs, where I lost to Highbury, which is currently campaigning in the Motsepe Foundation Championship,” Motsoeneng told FARPost.
“Immediately after that, we were invited to participate in the Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi Legacy Cup, which we won by defeating Richards Bay FC 4-3 on penalties. Nobody gave us a chance to win it.
“I won’t pick up my phone and call other club bosses and tell them they should fire their coaches and that I can do better than they can. First of all, I respect those guys because we are in the same profession. So, if I phone your chairman behind your back and ask for employment, what am I doing? This is something that I wouldn’t do because it would bring bad luck to the team.”
‘CALL ME BECAUSE YOU DON’T HAVE A COACH, NOT WHEN YOU’RE GOING TO FIRE ANOTHER COACH’, SAYS TSHEPO MOTSOENENG
However, Motsoeneng was not hesitant to mention that club owners should not contact him if they consider dismissing another employee as it will ultimately bring “bad luck” to the club.
“If you want me, you should call me because you don’t have a coach, and you need one. Don’t call me if you’re going to fire another coach. To be honest, for me, to go out and look for employment is not my thing,” he added.
“But if a coach tells the chairman that he wants to work with me, then I can sit down and listen to the coach. The coach will give me his plan, and we can see how we fit into each other’s philosophies, merge them together, and make a boom. They would rather call me to come help, and in what capacity.”
